No offense taken. Actually, in the small world of reading that book I was very taken with the ideas. But I knew that there had to be counter-arguments to the trivial concept that feathers must be ruffled for a model to be "good."
I think Scrage doesn't really mean that to be the central core of his book. The core seems to be more along the lines of "be aware of what you are doing" when building models. He wants people to be aware of things like "who benefits" from the model, and what measurements/metrics are to be used to test the model.
Above all, Schrage wants people to use models and prototypes as points of discussion (and play). As you say, does the model explain our observation? What are the assumptions built into the model? What has been added to the model, What has been ignored, What has been simplified? Are these things appropriate?
