Thanks for the kind words. It's an interesting point regarding the tacit description of knowledge. Actually I'm just updating 1mkm slightly to address this, and it goes something like this:
What we are really doing is recreating the conscsious/subconscious dynamic, except we are doing it with a method described in the book. So, in this sense, by identifying what we believe is the tacit component, we're defining this as the subconscious or hidden aspect, although we're making it explicit for the time being.
RE the group, there are two ways to approach an issue using tacit/explicit breakdowns. One, a group is divided, one side taking the tacit issue, the other taking the explicit, and then a debate ensues. This has the effect of creating new ideas, much like brainstorming, but with this particular methodology.
The other way to work with a group is to have all the individuals work 'individually', and like the diagram in the book, apply the kaizen principle, continually refining the new knowledge generated until a suitable solution is reached.
