When you are "The Document Company" it takes a Herculean effort to switch to becoming "The Knowledge Company", just imagine the entrenched paradigms, the magnitude of the unlearning and the mighty resistance!.
It seems there are pockets of KM at Xerox e.g. Eureka, their technology knowledge base, but I think documents once their core are now their doom.
You will enjoy reading "All hat and no cattle" by Chris Turner, Persus Books 1999. She gives some executive level insights into the fights. That title says it all when it comes to KM at Xerox.
