Hi Jan,
What if we looked at the question from another viewpoint.
maybe the key to KM is not for people in the organization to have a 'full buffet' of all the knowledge available in the organization at one time, but an ability for them to get their specific questions answered quickly & easily.
so it may be wrong to expect people just to share their knowledge periodically into the system when they do not know where this knowledge is going & why.
however, most people are happy to spend the time & effort to answer specific questions which are asked of them. infact quite a few people like to show how much they know about a subject that interests them!
im thinking that many of us (with due respect to the Gurus in our midst) find it easier to respond to specific questions posted in our forum, than to keep on posting messages on whatever new insights we regularly get on KM.
i know that i do.
maybe a KM system that just lets people know WHERE or WHO they should go to for the specific knowledge they are seeking would be more effective than an open ended undefined system that tells people to share whatever they know whenever they want.
it may be easier to setup a KM system that adapts itself to people's regular behaviour than to make people change their behaviour to adapt to the system.
take care,
Akhil
