My work over the past ten years has focused on examining why there is such resistance to organizational change and methods for removing these blockages. As an organizational psychologist, I have been particularly interested in looking at the personal and organizational barriers that create these blockages.
My conclusion is that a pre-requisite for any type of change management training is the strategic alignment of the organization's executive team. Using a "root cause" approach, I collaborate with executives on an individual and small group basis to attack these barriers to alignment using various problem-solving techniques I have developed. I am convinced that the types of results we have experienced using these methods apply to a wide variety of KE and IT issues. Particularly in organizations whose business strategy is focused on rapid implementation of new technologies, executive alignment is essential. The resistance of just one senior executive can often derail an entire initiative. I call my approach "executive community", and I have developed a website in the past few weeks devoted to expanding this concept. I would be interested in hearing from others who share these concerns.
