Greetings Scott,
May I suggest you read chapter 4 of Edgar Schein's 1999, "The Corporate Culture survival guide" called: "So How can you assess your corporate culture?". Schein points to the importance of mapping and surfacing assumptions, action research, interaction with artifacts, mining beliefs and values and then presents 4 examples "Beta Oil", "Circle Healthcare ", "Delta Sales" and Naval Research Labs.
