Hi Jez

A very strong commitment are presented in your message. Am i correct in guessing that computer technology would form a main part of the delivery mechanism for the objectives?

May I ask a few rhetorical questions? Have you set up strategic objectives yet, for example, all personnel would be informed of the strategic role and value of KM and its cultural effects and workload impacts within 3 months etc.?

Has a strategic scenario analysis been conducted to justify the KM route?

My only general concern with KM is its complexity. I wonder if anyone has an idea of how to implement a KM strategy without adding to the company infrastructure and personnel workload? If KM is to produce a tangible profit in the end, how can one justify it being a major expenditure? Let's learn from the DotComs.

I am playing around with the thought that KM should be a very, very subtle shadow of day-by-day operations. Almost like a stealth employee, picking up on all the "important" titbits as people carry on with their "normal" workday.

In this manner, most benefits should be "profitable" and the spinoffs could possibly be turned into real money.

I think it is generally agreed that some degree of computer technology would be used to support any KM strategy. It is the degree of IT dependency whuch may be a significant factor in concluding that a solution is a KM solution or something else.

Regards

Robert
