I would have to disagree with the initial reply. I am in the process of aligning my KM efforts with our training organization in order to infuse knowledge sharing as a basic principle for new hires. This coupled with the training department's charter for workforce vitality, which focuses on culture issues and change within the existing culture, provides that tranistional coverage for those employees at a mid-point and later in their career. This includes communities of practice and mentoring development and facilitation. I see the true charter of a KM leader to form partnerships within the enterprise with those areas that can best facilitate KM practices. Kind of a customer/supplier relationship in some cases. The IT/IS organization supports me as a customer to provide for my technology needs and coordination. Similarly, the training department helps me to address the culture changes that fit with the KM strategy. Hope that helps. Of course, every company has it's own unique culture that requires a careful understanding before moving ahead with KM.
