After reading all the contributions to this topic, I'm struck by the fact that no purpose is ascribed to the sharing of knowledge. You tell me that I'm going to, or should share my knowledge, and I'm going to ask why, and where and when and what and how, to whom, and to what end. Are we talking "Happy Talk" for hip corporate ommunications, or are we talking serious business, with upper management's direct support.
That is, knowledge sharing takes place in a complex environment -- knowledge, if you will pardon the expression, of the purpose, and of the environment, including the players that operate within it, is essential to developing incentives appropriate to the situation. After all, at least in the old days, this whole issue of knowledge sharing, was a routine management issue, not unrelated to the management task of getting people to work together to get a job done. And to accomplish such a task the manager must know his/her team or staff on an individual, 1 to 1 basis. As Ms. Kinser points out, human behavior is complex, sometimes nasty, and not necessarily subject to Skinner's Pavlovian regemin, nor gifts of frim fram sauce.
