Is KM pillars of umbrellas?

Is KM utilizing corporate discovery of critical information to share corporate memory, grooming relationships that foster corporate growth to achieve desired results?

I am in the learning mode, but my current knowledge of KM depicts KM falling under four primary pillars:

1. Corporate Discovery of Critical Information.
2. Enduring or “corporate” grooming.
3. Corporate Memory.
4. Corporate Relationships.

Corporate discovery of critical information supports decision making. Critical information is often situation or event specific, takes into consideration organizational relationships and organizational structure and can be measured by a clear understanding of processes used to generate critical information to support key decisions that achieve desired results. In simple terms it is often process centric.

Enduring or “corporate” grooming involves professional education, mentorship programs, and experience, know how and how to, history, lessons learned, tips and tricks of the trade, techniques and procedures.

Corporate memory involves libraries (electronic and text), policy and data repositories.

Corporate relationships address organizational design and organizational relationships. It links current operations with “to be” or future plans.

KM as a powerful tool to achieve desired results, especially if KM is understood within the organization and the people that form the organization understand how to harness KM to effectively achieve desired results.

Last thought: How can you effectively manage knowledge if you don’t know what you need to do? That thought points back to corporate discovery of critical information…and the other three pillars of KM umbrellas listed above. Are there any other thoughts on this issue?
