a) Interesting subject, difficult to grasp, hard to sell, impossible to tell or teach.
b) Exciting domain, new products, new players, lots of attention, great potential
c) Many niches, pick and choose where you wish to play: technology, cognitive science, learning, OD, accounting....
d) Big challenges, many unknowns, large questions, uncharted territory, new alliances
e) Chance to share, connectivity and collaboration offer two strategies to work in the 'new networked economy', sharing and dialog are key practices for personal development, social networking and survival!
f) Continuous learning, needed to stay abreast of environmental changes & market shifts, to remain competitive
g) Interesting twist, I think KM got off on the wrong foot (technology driven) and now needs to put people back into the equation. Knowledge emerges through conversation and gels in static artifacts and objects.

The largest outstanding question for KM is understanding & applying the practices that enable knowledge creation. So far KM has been too focussed on leverage via reuse, scaling knowledge transfer, discovery of patterns in 'historic' data streams, static publishing on intranets and storage of best practices or lessons learned. This is like driving a car forward while looking through the rear-view mirrow. We need to link to markets, raise group awareness, enable community reflection, practice pro-active synthesis, stimulate collaborative creativity, make new links & relationships, leverage innovation and joint learning. KM needs to look beyond the 'low hanging fruits' and prospect, conserve & nurture the wellspring for future adaptation, unlearn core ridigities and embrace new generative models. If we do not move we will be bypassed by the next fad / hype / market fashion and super meme.

Knowledge creation is where I wish to play, oh come the day!
