Yalvora,
Here are some links and leads:
Xerox, inventing & sharing
Innovation diffusion
Connected Ecomony, E&Y article
Social networks and KM, Darr, 1998There is an important link between new technolgies, access to ideas and people and sustained innovation. We are just starting to see some of this happening within KM as our communties build sufficient trust, conduct structured inquiries and regular business scanning, then implement knowledge sharing. KM tools leverage the ability to make and maintain weak ties, this has been show to be important in sourcing new ideas, making critical linkages and helping creativity. The other aspect is recognizing opportunties and communities are starting to scan and share to that end.
Do not share Reilly's view (if I read him correctly?) that dialog does not play a key role in innovation, I think deep dialog and knowledge networking are critical strategies for sustained innovation, so keep talking if you wish to be inventive, it is a proven strategy for getting around cognitive blocks and gathering thoughts that help.
