Hi Reilly
herewith, a personalized, subjective opinion in reply to your question.
I have always liked the fact that KM got us all thinking about knowledge and asking questions around it. Did it enrich our companies and ourselves measurably?
Speaking for myself, yes it did. It has enabled me to think of services and customer needs in terms of knowledge and all its categories. It has further added value by enabling me to play an instrumental role in the knowledge mindset of my colleagues and managers. It has certainly enriched my professional competence.
Will it affect the bottom line? Myself and a group of professionals are privately engaged in the process of packaging (product) knowledge into solution services to capitalize on the CRM, ASP, and e-commerce trends. I think it will pay off handsomely in the long run.
Compliments and honour to Karl Sveiby's for his principles (Tango), which have proven very useful in understanding the eco-system of intangibles and cash in a "real" business environment.
If it weren't for KM and the great minds of those I encountered in the domain, I probably would have remained a spectator on the business bench, watching, but never benefiting from, the revolution in the knowledge economy.
Regards
Robert
