I find in my KM encounters with clients (mostly in financial services) that there is an unwillingness to make what is known tacitly (e.g. investment management practices) explicit. In other words, in a culture, where you get to where you are because of what you know, you may be unwilling to share it! In putting in a KM solution (intranet or whatever) you need to get to the knowledge, but how can you do this when knowledge is guarded. Are there any tools/methods out there that allow the elicitation of knowledge in a culture where there is little buy-in to knowledge sharing? In other words, can we elicit knowledge from say 'investment managers' without them knowing what we're doing?
