I merely state that I haven't taken the impact of the new rules for the new economy (NRftNE, assuming they are valid, which hasn't been proven yet) on generic strategies into account.
If Kelly's NRftNE are valid it will have an impact on the strategy for cost leadership. It might even lead to both generic strategies becoming one.
As for an innovation to become the standard, it has to be given away away for free. And how much differentiation does the standardization allow?
Is it still bad to be stuck in the middle? Or can both strategies be used in alignment with each other (e.g. linked to product life cycles)?So no statement form me yet... But feel free to make one :).
