Do I understand correctly that you state that, given the "new rules" in the "new economy", Porters model of strategic choice no longer is valid framework for strategic thinking?
If so, how can KM help organisations to avoid falling in the pitfalls, Mr Porter so eloquently describes, organisations fall in to when not making the strategic choice between cost leadership, differentiation and focus or as you say: remain stuck in the middle?
This question is based on the assumption that the 'new' in 'new rules' and 'new economy' is the knowledge component and its impact on the economic rules.
