To gain insight into...
* how knowledge is shared
* what the most used knowledge resources are
* who the experts are
* where the communication/exchage gaps are
* where are the comminities of practice/knowledge areI map out the various knowledge networks in an organization.
And then I measure them. These maps/measures provide my clients
and I more insight into the functioning of the organization.Organizational network maps do NOT reveal all -- they do provide a
picture of what was once invisible. These network maps are used in
the same way a doctor uses an x-ray or CAT scan. The xray does not
reveal how sick/injured a person is. It provides the doctor more
information with which to make the diagnosis/treatment decisions.
An x-ray can be taken again to see how the treatment is proceeding.
