Hi Don
I used to work for a company called Univac - in its day it was a great technology company, in fact, this is how it tried to sell itself to the world.
However, IBM - our biggest competition - were really always visibly at least three steps behind the ball in technology terms compared to Univac.
We won some interesting battles, IBM won the war.
