Those "disciplinary straitjackets" are needed for
quality assurance of research. Without it all
one's time would go for checking references
and references of those etc. and for checking
backgrounds etc.Of course this gives difficulties for
emerging multidisciplinary areas. But
this trade-off we must live with.Then, also, one must diffferentiate between
science and technology. Science is building
metaforically speaking maps of reality.
Technology is building "only" artifacts. You
can create whatever artifacst you like
but in science you can't work out the
reality.
