Don, you have hit on a very interesting point about academia and the enterprise (?) of higher education and research. Here is a quotation from a pragmatic philosopher of information systems -- that resonates with the motivation underpinning the genesis of this forum that purposely discourages "disciplinary straitjackets" and instead motivates one to fintune the art of "living on the edge of chaos."

"From a management point of view, the current division of human knowledge into disciplines is managerially stupid and an often evil design of science, which blocks off inquiry into critical issues because the issues don't fit into the disciplines."
-- Churchman, C.W. "Management Science: Science of Managing and Managing of Science," Interfaces, 24(4), July-August 1994, pp. 99-110.

Some other premises underlying the birth of this forum are based on recognizing the emergence of the 'grassroots driven' globally networked knowledge creation, dissemination and application processes. While recognizing the value of the traditional "scientific" discourse, sources and channels of knowledge creation and dissemination, this forum recognizes knowledge creation and dissemination as centered at the very core of human existence. Based on 'action-in-reflection', it elevates the full-blown experience of living, learning and doing of managers, professionals and entrepreneurs to the levels that have been traditionally reserved for 'scientific research.'
