Sogo --It's hard to answer your question without more precise and exhaustive definitions. For example, is knowledge about the competition, about government regulation, about managing your lobbiest(sp?) or PR or advertising or changing trends in consumer tastes in the External category?
If there's any chance of developing a rationally based definition of and measuring protocol of IC, then, I think that you must use a cost accounting approach and get down to the nuts and bolts - knowledge of how one sales rep works with a client, of how two sales reps work with a client, of when to use one sales rep and when to use two, ...
And if you do this, the broad categories will emerge in a natural fashion. After all, if you use this approach, you must develop a schema of all the knowledge relevant to the operation of a business or organization.
To find a valuation scheme, probably can be done, but it would be enormously difficult -- there are markets for some types of knowledge, but certainly not all. So one would have to do a lot of sophisticated statistical work to parse out values of aggregate knowledge as well as basic"cost accounting" levels of knowledge.
But, perhaps I'm missing something.
Thanks
