Hello Steve,
KM is pretty much a convergence of distinct subjects and studies from several disciplines and which is still converging and further developing in various directions. I'm afraid that the definitive "how to" book has yet to be written - the sort of "KM in 3 months" or "KM 101" that we see for IT type solutions to information requirements.
There are lots of pioneers in KM - in fact at the moment KM seems to evoke, and more than just slightly, images of frontiersman, railroads, ranchers and gold - opportunities, insight, innovation and patent snake medicine.
BTW I tried to put together a "personal view of KM" but the area is really vast when you try and get hold of all of it at once - so maybe that great KM book will actually come from outside of the current KM community.
Regards,
Martyn R Jones
