As a "hybrid" HR professional now working in the
IT organization, and focussing specifically on
knowledge management, I am very interested in this
thread. I am trying to figure out what sort of
training will be needed to move the organization
to a fully functional knowledge organization. Much
of what I keep discovering is the need to do some
massive communication to create the understanding
of what KM is/means to us, and then create the
"felt need" or demand for training. Without such
understanding, there is no way people will come
for training. Yet, many people just assume they only
need training for the IT portion or the actual KM
system. The reality is that they need to learn how
to work in a different way, when to seek help, how
to find the experts, how to capture and synthesise
their experiences to add to our knowledge pool etc.
And then there is the whole issue of motivation
and incentives to share knowledge, make what we
"just do when doing our jobs" more explicit and
tangible, so shareable even when we are not at
our desks. So, there is a definite cross-over
between HR and IT and KM, and all are required
if we are to make it work.

I'm very interested in other people's ideas, hints
and suggestions.

Thanks for this opportunity to share information
and knowledge.
