I fully agree!

My point is that I dont like the word "knowledge management".
You cannot manage knowledge.

Using Plato's cave is propably a bit hard but the metaphor is in some way an excellent choice.
Remember that it was in he's "The Republic" that he's friend and colleague Socrates adresses the relations among appearence, reality and knowledge.
Allready then did he lay ground for the discussions that we are having here today.

I agree with you that knowledge should (can) not be managed, but that it should be given a possibility to thrive and grow.
I also agree that the mainstream interpretation is built on a somewhat functionalistic view, and therby to simple to explain it in any usefull way.

That is why I say, lets not make any illusions about what can be done and what cannot be done.
What mainstream today defines as "knowledge management" is to me nothing but management of a lot of information, and there is a very big difference between information and knowledge.

By the way I do also love the ironic part of your message that I believe not many will be able to see.
