Hello,

Business Intelligence is proving to be useful in business. Knowledge Management is also proving to be useful to certain companies in certain businesses and in certain circumstances. Some of the ways that companies are using Knowledge Management is to:

i. Identify what they know

ii. Capture what they learn (this doesn’t necessarily imply that they are "just" writing it down on paper)

iii. Re-use Knowledge from lessons learned to help reduce costs and risks associated with repeatedly re-learning the same lessons associated with undertaking (particularly) complex and risky projects/activities without the benefit of knowledge of how similar projects have been planned and executed.

This, in my opinion, does not mean that Knowledge Management necessarily leads to Taylorism anymore than the contemporary education, training and learning available to medical school students leads necessarily to the industrialisation of Health Care.

However, there is no getting away from why quite a lot of businesses are taking an interest in KM. But its stating the obvious to reiterate that we are living in vaguely capitalist/democratic societies, where the drivers for a lot of initiatives are plainly motivated by business goals and political expediency.
