Knowledge Management Officer – skills and competencies?

At lunch yesterday a colleague, eager to get into the field, asked me what she needed to know to become a KM person. I must admit that I was at a bit of a loss (I blame it on tacit knowledge) when I couldn’t give her a decent answer. I ‘knew’ what was important, but had never before had to externalise it.

So I though I would ask you all, ‘what are the appropriate skills, experience, competencies etc. that make up a good knowledge management officer profile?’ Anybody got any good job descriptions they want to share?

I guess I am more curious about the behaviours, attitudes and ideas, than actual hard experience and technical skills – what do people think? Here’s some to get us started, in no particular order.…

Openness to new ideas…

Perception of the importance of people, behavioural and cultural issues…

Business results focused…

Technology aware…

What else?
