What we don't consider on many of these discussions is that 'the boss' and the 'management team' are not where the real work is occuring. Nor, in most instances, are they involved in knowledge changes. it is down at the informal groups that actively seek improved ways to do work--usually as work arounds to formal policies and practices that are enforced by management.
We need to find a way to document the real change. Using the boss as the knowledge transfer center will not cut it.
