I have read through many of the comments posted under this subject title. I would like to suggest something, in particular a project that I am currently working on. My organisation is quite large, and is made up of many different business groups. As a result, the tendency to 're-invent the wheel' is great, as a result of: org culture and physical distance between employees. My division is developing a simple database that captures any innovation/improvement that occurs within the organisation under some simple headings e.g. Innovation Name, What was the innovation?, Contact Details, etc. This database will sit on our IntraNet with a sort of 'Search' option attached which will enable users to browse via many categories. There will also be the option of adding to the database via a form. My understanding is that, this is using technology to allow a large organisation to stop the re-invention of the wheel and to allow person to person interaction - knowledge sharing!
I am not sure that I have put this response in the correct spot, but would be interested to hear back...?
