Hi Reilly,

Un-fortunately, even the best boss can't know everyone and everything, especially given the speed of staff turnover, competition, technology etc.

All we are suggesting, or indeed asking, is how, given speed, time and distance, can we help everyone to know who else is doing something similiar now and who else has done it before that I can learn from?

Technology is, as always, the smallest part, and people as always, both the largest and most challenging part.

But rather than 're-invent' the wheel, How do we encourage knowledge sharing and creation beyond units and chains of command? Between communities of Practice?

Your comment, "As far as I can tell, the person(s) at the center of the knowledge transfer center used to be called "the boss" frankly, makes me shudder.

These days, do we really want all information routed through a single person? Are we not trying to desperately leave that behind as a remenant of the command and control industrial past? Is it not the antithesis of organisational elarning and knowledge management?

I'm sure (I hope) that I'm taking your comment out of context, and would ask you to clarify this point.

Looking forward to your insights.

Laurence.
