This part of the thread is interesting because it gets to the 'heart' of the utility of KM. Of what value is a good KM paradigm if it does not fit the purpose of the organization?
Over the years, I have suggested to organizations that want to adopt a KM approach that they first go back and clearly understand their purpose--their 'ethos' as an organization. Who do they believe they are, and who do they want to be in the future. Once the organization understands itself, then KM can be used to facilitate their objectives, and also make them a very agile organization that is capable of further change as the market changes. That way the accumulated knowledge of the organization can be put to bear on any problem and any change in market strategy.
