Don,

my thoughts exactly. In my opinion tacit knowledge (which in my opinion isthe basis of the core competences of people-oriented companies such as consultancy firms) can not be transferred itself. The only thing that can be transferred is INFORMATION on the tacit knowledge one posesses. Doing this in conversation (which I believe is the most effective way to constantly reaffirm an allignment of personal context) tends to lead to the CREATION of new knowledge at the end of the receiver of the information.

Which raises the following propositions/questions:

- is knowledge management more about communication than about IT?

- what elements of IT contribute to effective communication (because for me it is obvious that this forum has enriched my personal knowledge in a way clay tablets would not be alble to do quite so efficient :-))

- Which systems (in the broadest sense of the word) might be the best suited to provide this indirect knowledge exchange?

- and from a personal point of view, am I on the right track with my line of questioning, because it has been my experience that you only receive follow ups by people who more or less share your views on certain propositions :-)? Anyone else wondered about that?
