In the name of art? And on to pragmatism. Yet, the funders of KM are probably hoping to see the products they are "investing" in. But what would be the outcome of it all? Is it perhaps a symbiotic dance of econimic flow? Maybe it is a class struggle, and hence the quest to understand the cultural issues? Maybe it is man trying to understand himself, or a Freudian desire to be free from the office and the demands of modern-day work, implying frustration. So often, as soon as a KM product breaks water with a shout of triumph, another KM sea opens up beneath it. Shall we ever "control" and "manage" real wisdom? I think not. A few of us can but hope to grasp it, and fewer more could hope to simplify it. The bottom line is that companies are hoping that KM will help them conquer their opponents, and make them rich and powerful. The KM consultants are playing the role of "wise men" of old, and many are soothsayers. In its current form, it will but confuse those who cannot understand and respect it. The change starts within, in the thoughts...not in the products, which are essentially other peoples' thoughts. Change management happens within. If it doesn't, it's called a project.
