Designing a seperate 'virtual culture' on an Intranet doesn't
seem like a very likely possibility to me Hans. You can't compare
the differing culture of communities on the Internet with those that
are at work on an Intranet.Employees behaviour on a company intranet will simply be an
extension of the prevalent culture of the company they work in.
This is because the Intranet is identified as 'company property' and
, as such, behavioural patterns would most likely mimic those displayed
in any other part of the company.Internets are different becuse the people who join Internet communities
are effectively joining a different company with a different culture. The
fact that these communities were allowed to develop on their own accounts for
their individual culture. Indeed the culture you speak of that is prevalent in
Geocities is in evidence throughout most of the Internet as that was the spirit in
which the Internet was originally built. The only way to seperate Intranet culture from its owning corporate culture is to
somehow find a means to seperate the Intranet from the Company itself - which besides
being very difficult to do - would also probably be dentrimental due to the lack of
structure and goals which are targetted specifically for the benefit of the company's goals.I hope this make some sense
Boris
