Just a quick note that some related issues on the IT and HR aspects of KM have been reviewed in the following thread:

  • Knowledge Management & Human Resource Management
  • Coverage of recent KM initiatives in some trade press journals such as CIO and Information Week, suggests that some companies are taking a more HR oriented view of KM (generally associated with the key role of the CLO or the Chief Learning Officer), others are taking a more technology-intensive (AI-oriented) perspective. However, there doesn't seem to be any standardization of the specific designators, roles or descriptors. Many executives involved in such initiatives are still in the process of defining their agenda based on the organizational culture and strategy issues.

You may also like to see the current trends in the IS executive arena which seem to suggest a greater orientation of IS executives toward HR aspects. Such trends are available at the following URL:

One cannot rule out similar orientation of HR executives or Finance executives toward the IT issues: such as information systems that facilitate the creation, development and sustenance of intellectual capital.
