As I progress through my MBA project, I frequently
come up against various unanticipated problems. The
other day however, as I came out of a meeting with
the HR Director of the company I'm dealing with, I
was wondering where exactly does KM fit in, in an
organization?I have seen this conflict between IT and HR
as both sections want to take credit for it
without actually having to take the responsibility
for it. I think the confusion arises because there
are many different sides to 'Knowledge Management'
There are both technical and human aspects to be
considered. My own work is on measuring intellectual capital.
Although I actually believe that this is really
a more HR-type assignment, it is the IT people
who are taught the basics of knowledge management
at business school. (I'm doing an MBA specializing
in IT Management). The problem is that when it comes down to it, KM
is an HR issue (that most IT people lack
understanding in) that requires the support of IT
(something that HR people are traditionally
shy of). The answer: The Hybrid Manager. (someone
midway between HR and IT, that can communicate to both)This old concept never really took off when it
was first conceived - but I believe that as time
goes by, it is this breed that will eventually
dominate in such areas as KM.Any thoughts?
