Thanks Denham,

The 360 approach is a good method to evaluate sharing behaviour of individuals. Myself I was struggling with developing evaluation teams on knowledge sharing. The 360 approach does the same, which is a qualitative evaluation of individuals. However, a disadvantage of this method is the time it takes to evaluate persons.

One of the goals of evaluating people is, among others, to create awareness for knowledge sharing. For instance the SHE-programs, to change people’s attitude on safety, individuals are forced to cross roads on zebra crossings. The most important issue of this rule is not the fact that people cross roads on zebra crossings which increases safety, but the change of attitude it takes.

The main task of such a quantitative performance measure is the change of attitude. For knowledge sharing I suggest to implement a comparable performance measure. The number of hits in a database could be one, although I’m open for suggestions.

I agree this quantitative performance measure will initiate a lot of noise and nonsense being shared, but the most important thing is the change of attitude; people start sharing!!!

Robbert
