If you believe that knowledge creation is where the long term value in KM lies then dialog will be an important tool for you. Dialog is exploration, seeking a shared understanding. This is different from a discussion where the aim is to arrive at a consensus or take a decision or debate which ia advocacy for a particular view or value or process.
Through dialog we expose our ideas, mental models and cognitive prototypes to critique, welcome annotation, seek synthesis, look for ideas to bootstrap paradigm shifts and search for improvement, invite testing, refinement and pursue applicability. Deep dialog does not require fancy software, new architectures, object orientated databases or AI, it needs trust, a measure of self confidence, a willingness to tollerate criticism, openness and an interest in learning.
I'm interested to explore the use of dialog (face to face or via computer) in KM any takers?
