Apologies to all following this thread for using a colloquial expression which may have obscured my meaning. I thought the body of my posting was clear enough, only using an intended mind-catching subject line, which demonstrates that old habits die hard for an erstwhile advertising copywriter!Martyn raises a very valid point which affects the discussion about knowledge and its management. In business we must communicate clearly if information is to be conveyed coherently from sender to receiver - the well-known First World War story "send three-and-fourpence we're going to a dance" is one we use often in presentation skills training so I should know better.
To reiterate the point I was making in my posting, I believe that there are no complete, one-off solutions in the management of knowledge (though there may be in the specific context of IT-based KM Systems), and that was the burden of the thread Rupert started - a search towards a complete solution (largely based on IT competences). His subsequent postings indicate that he is coming to that conclusion too. What we can expect is to provide a solution for a client which matches their situation, needs, resources as closely as possible, and to do that we will employ a set of solutions stemming from a widely accepted, coherent understanding of the nature of the subject - exactly what this forum helps us to achieve - a consensus based on best practice.
As to Martyn's point about the Welsh breakfast - I have heard people say "I'll have the full Monty" in just such a situation. Since the advent of the film (if you haven't yet, catch it soon!) that could be construed in a rather different and embarrassing way, but it still means to have the complete set-up. And in "Knowledge Management" there ain't no such thing.
