Hi Jay,
A few people in my research felt that the role of the CKO is best embodied within the role of CEO. After all, it is an enterprise wide, strategy based, integrative role- one that closely corresponds to that of CEO. For smaller enterprises that `can't afford' a CKO, I think you folks have come up with a nifty solution- acting as an `outside CKO' to a group of smaller companies at one time. You might suggest that the CEO, in the longer term, set up what I call a Strategic Knowledge Team that will set and implement the Knowledge Strategy. As a minimum, the Team needs to be comprised of the leaders of IT, HR, and business strategy.
