I welcome your opinion... albeit it is a bit strongly worded. However, being a practitioner for over a decade and now working on bridging theory and practice... I would like to hear more about your viewpoint... albeit I would like to remind you that others have expressed such strong 'opinions' about the hyping of KM and similar management fads against 'witchdoctor' consultants, big six consulting firms, and so forth... It might help to take a moment to isolate the 'issues' from the [bashing of the] 'identities' [which doesn't produce much beyond more rhetoric]... may be some people in some of these categories have something that is of 'practical utility'...
You have mentioned some interesting 'constructs' ('concepts' - in more colloquial lingo) - Common Sense, Technology, Information, Database, Search Engine... in your thinking how do they fit together... if you think they fit together at all...
Where is the beeeef!!!!! Or as we say the big 'K' word - KNOWLEDGE.... Before sermonizing the uselessness of all the ideas expressed by anyone and everyone (be they academics, consultants, big 6 or the bigfoot ;-) )... let's hear practical applications of WHAT you are searching for!!! You have made some very strong assertions although... you have yourself claimed that you are 'clearly not in a position to make a valid statement on the subject.' It is a very interesting situation. Based on YOUR research... what do YOU think about Knowledge Management... What kind of practical applications do YOU think need to be addressed... In YOUR thinking, how are the practical models isolated from theory...
You have invoked the 'Hegelian' mode ;-) and we are all game... hoping we can have some interesting 'dialog' as a consequence.
Welcome to the party... we enjoyed hearing your note... now, let's hear the song!!
