Martyn and Jay,

Thanks for the comments they were all well appreciated.

Do we need to define 'good practices' within the process of one department
to another or can we view the practices themselves as 'corporate practices'?
My problem is that if we utilize limited (1-3)case studies in our research,
then I believe the study of knowledge management will limited to the
context of the these case studies.

This brings us back to the role of information technology; perhaps it would be more fruitful to
look at the theory behind knowledge management, find its limititations, in order
to understand its potential.

There is a huge discussion on the potential of IT, the notion "if you build it.."
but the fact of the matter must remain, that the crucial knowledge transfer of good practices
can happen with face to face interaction. The leveraging of tacit knowledge through perhaps Nonaka's & Takeuchi's
knowledge conversion theory.

As much as we dwell upon the benefits of intranet systems (Lotus Notes ect) aren't we also approaching a scenario, in which we are distancing
ourselves from real employee interactions ?
Look at the consultancy world. They are all on-line with knowkedge Xchannge networks,
tapping into the tank of prior 'good practices' this process of tapping as opposed to creating
new client solution (transfer of 'good practices')
is leaving me with the idea of an 'institutionalization of good practices'

Comments please,

Lars-Oluf
