Hi Denham
The medium is the human employee that conveys 'this is red.' When any form of communication is exchanged between individuals on a human to human level, then 'knowledge' is the material or stuff that is exchanged. When 'this is red' is exchanged between an employee and a machine (like on Brint), then the medium perscribes the form, or describes the context of that message, which we define as information. Finally, when data is exchanged between computers, at that moment in time, 'this is red' is the stuff of data. The thing is, while all this cannot happen simultaneously, it can happen on the heals of each other. Data/info/knowledge flow between each other, via different mediums. It seems pretty straightfoward, really.
