Thanks for the clarification! The example you used in the last
post gives me a much better context for the previous postings.I think you're right that what is presented as knowledge management
is more often information management. Two resources seem to apply
to to the distinction you make are (1) KM
is an Oxymoron and (2) The Community
Intelligence Labs online discussions about Communities of Practice.
The latter requires registration if you haven't already found the site,
but it's well worth the time.I had misunderstood you previous postings and thought that you were
arguing that we should all be focusing exclusively on formal information
management, which I see now is almost opposite to the truth of the matter.
If you're interested in abstract theory as much or mare than practice,
you may want to look at Jurgen Habermas work, The Theory of Communicative
Action : Lifeworld and System : A Critique of Functionalist Reason.
Joseph Libertson's Proximity, Levinas, Blanchot, Bataille, and Communication,
though remarkably difficult and hard to find, is an extraordinary book
that looks at the foundations for and ethics of human interaction.
Finally, Michael Polyani's Human Knowledge is a great entrance to
practical epistemology. Polyani has been recently rediscovered and
I think there are some threads or links on this site to writings about
him.Rob
