I want to make the distinction between information sharing and knowledge sharing, because I believe these two terms are often confused. During my research I’m doing at the moment, I found out that many organisation who think they are practising knowledge management are actually practising information management. Purely disseminating information. I call this indirect knowledge management. By means of the information one can form his own knowledge.

But now I’m interested in direct knowledge sharing. I’m not sure what it is, but I hope this discussion can help me. But here is an example:

An individual enters a for him newly organisation. Although no one told him how to behave in that organisation, he gets a feeling of how to behave according the implicit rules of that organisation. He doesn’t get direct information on how to behave, but by being there he gets a feeling on how to do it, a sort of indirect information, maybe this is direct knowledge sharing!

Conclusion of this brainwave:

direct information sharing = indirect knowledge sharing
indirect information sharing = direct knowledge sharing

Let I said this is just a brainwave, I hope this discussion can help us further.
