Last year, @BRINT was one of the sponsors of the Xerox Knowledge Initiative study of one hundred "Knowledge Managers," persons who have a "primary responsibility to facilitate the dissemination of valuable knowledge throughout their companies to help guide successful decisions." The following responsibilities in descending order of percentages provide some perspective of what are currently perceived as the various activities within the Knowledge Management portfolio. The above activities from the preliminary findings of the Xerox Knowledge Initiative study would perhaps give another perspective of our interpretation of KM and why we consider LO to be a subset of KM.
- Integrate Technology: supporting infrastructure with host software, providing standard tools for KM
- Act as Catalyst: Championing KM and ensures it plays a key strategic role.
- Develop Information: Providing enterprise-wide infrastructure of knowledge as a structured format of information
- Make Knowledge Actionable: Responsibility for actionable knowledge.
- Develop Processes: Develop organization's learning methods based on decision-making processes.
- Disseminate Information: Exploring, locating, capturing, developing, and disseminating new thinking.
- Acquire Resources: Finding resources and skill sets.
- Install Best Practices: Using best practices to best serve the company
