Anna,
Look for the KM deliverables that will have greatest impact on your business. Find the existing pain and devise a non-technical KM solution. Collect stories / case studies that demonstrate value. Take your executives on a pilgrimage to a winning KM company. Look for:
- Increased market awareness and business agility
- Faster learning and product development
- Gains from avoiding repeated errors
- Greater knowledge retention - building a corporate memory
- More collaborative innovation
- .............
Avoid the ROI straight-jacket, do not let KM vendors lead your quest, find internal evangelists, start under the radar, consider informal support for existing communities of practice, identify your knowledge brokers and work with them, involve the executive (core group) upfront.
Good luck
