In the factory metaphor we are in, I am envisioning information could be viewed as work-in-progress or finished product either being the output of any of the knowledge processes, but only the work-in-process info with the intent that it is "active" and "on the floor" to be used by the same or another process. Hope I took clarity in the right direction for you. I would then view knowledge worker as those "in the process" and information worker as the "forklift drivers" dealing in the material handling problems of both finished goods and work-in-process inventory.
