Hi
I’ve been lurking on the edge of this thread and thought I’d put my 2pence worth in.I thought that once Knowledge had been made Explicit, it stayed Explicit (within the domain in question), but new Tacit knowledge would be developed by inferring something new from that Explicit Knowledge.
From Don’s original post in the thread
“tacit knowledge <> K <> explicit knowledge”
and
“In exactly the same way, ideas - or tacit knowledge - are transformed into language - or explicit knowledge.”
Only by looking at it in this way can you reverse the argument in the above quote i.e. that ‘Language’ can be transformed into ‘Ideas’. To ‘create’ an idea obviously needs some additional processing of the Explicit knowledge, which is why there is the middle K in the equation, meaning that Explicit knowledge can’t simply revert itself to being Tacit, it is new Tacit knowledge that is produced by adding to, or inferring something from, the Explicit knowledge given.
