hi Jerry,
What I would suggest, and what I've modeled is that tacit knowledge is comprised of the conscious/subconscious and this resides in the brain, while explicit knowledge is comprised of information and data.

So my point being, explicit knowledge resides outside the brain, but once 'in' the brain becomes tacit.

Knowledge with a capital K is actually comprised simultaneously of tacit and explicit meaning/awareness/knowledge. Tacit knowledge is conscious/subconscious while explicit k is info/data.

So Knowledge is actually comprised of conscious/subconscious/information/data at the same time.

KM works the same while, though I haven't defined those paremeters beyond intellectual capital and intellect.
