Hi LES!
Your being in USA is a great advantage. And since the discipline of KM is emerging I think we are living in interesting times.
As long as looking for a career in KM is concerned - the beauty of this field is that one can start anywhere. Ideally looking in today's business environment even a Janitor is a KNowledge Worker.However, i would suggest that you look for a job in an information related business and use your MBA with Information Systems knowledge to understand the real world. From there u can graduate to a level where the information taxonomization is done. THis way u will be at an advantage. And who knows very soon be a CKO of some company.
The other option is to join a management consultancy. a lot of KM is happening with them.
